South Tyrol is an Alpine region rich in natural lakes. In addition to the larger and well-known ones on the valley floors, there are numerous small Alpine bodies of water at high altitude, which constitute destinations for beautiful excursions. Together with Josef Rampold, in 1974 Menara published the first standard book with the description of all the lakes in South Tyrol, with related access data. Now with this volume he presents a representative choice of the most characteristic and enchanting lakes, reachable with easy and rewarding excursions. In this, his second book on the lakes which he visited all of them personally, even exploring several of them, Menara proposes 70 excursions, many of them circular, with exact indications on the time required, on the paths, on the differences in altitude; the itineraries introduce a total of around 125 major and minor bodies of water in South Tyrol. The splendid 120 color photos highlight the extraordinary attractions of the lake and alpine landscape of our country. The work is completed by the geographical map, clippings from local maps with marked itinerary, bibliographical notes and the alphabetical list of toponyms.
