I Giganti dei Ghiacciai

It's called Tor des Glaciers and it's an ultra trail race that takes place in Valle d'Aosta next to the much more famous Tor des Géants. What differentiates it from many other races born on trails all over the world? It is 450 kilometers long, has a difference in altitude of 32,000 meters and must be completed within 190 hours (just under eight days). More than a race, it is an adventure at high altitude among hills, peaks, glaciers, via ferratas and refuges, a challenge to fatigue, to unexpected events, to oneself. A few brave people lined up at the start. Even fewer are those who manage to get to the end. Giorgio wanted to try it, after his repeated experiences in the Tor des Géants. But he leaves with more doubts than certainties. He knows that he will have to walk and run day and night on off-the-beaten-path itineraries and among extraordinary landscapes, relying on his own strength, his backpack, his GPS. And also to the support of a group of friends, more or less strange. Right from the start and all the time he finds himself having to deal with comical mistakes, bizarre encounters with people and animals, surreal dialogues out loud with himself. He tackles sections of the track as if he were a real athlete and others as if he were a naive novice. He has to juggle complicated sleep crises, hallucinations, tricks of his own subconscious. And he also has a secret objective: in this race with a thousand unknowns he will try to do better than him, a mysterious opponent with whom he will compete to close a score that has remained pending for too long.
