Sui sentieri della leggenda

Piedmontese folklore constitutes a heritage of great importance, which represents a fundamental part of Italian popular culture. In this book the author collects a series of essays that study some moments of the oral culture of the foothills, proposing insights of considerable ethnographic interest. With a scientific method, but with an easily accessible approach, the book addresses heterogeneous themes, some well-known, others almost unknown. After a series of methodological chapters, which allow us to understand folklore, the volume collects studies that question the origin of the masca, the role of the priest in popular tradition, the myth of Jus primae noctis, Catlina and the Babau, the Queen Piè d'Oca, on the Ciabra, on the fairies, on the Bell'Alda and the devil's bridge. These and many other topics make On the paths of legend a valid tool for increasing our knowledge of Piedmontese tradition and at the same time provide us with useful contributions for learning to study folklore.
