Year: 1993 Pages: 258 “Montagnes valdotaines vous ètes mes amours”. Story of a vocation. This story has two protagonists: the mountain and a young man from Valle d'Aosta. Spending his holidays in a mountain hut he felt the need to climb the highest and most difficult peaks of the Valley. His gaze and his imagination are attracted and almost fascinated by the most beautiful of those peaks: the Matterhorn, which exerts an overbearing appeal on him and will dominate his life from beginning to end. The action takes place in three parts. The first part in the years immediately following the First World War; the second, ten years later; the third ends in 1933. One could also say that this is "the book of the Aosta Valley", with its castles, villages, high pastures, great mountains. As in a vast fresco, different aspects of the places are in fact represented, from the valleys to the peaks: the life of the shepherds, the figures of mountaineer priests and scholars, the ancient stories, the evolution of Aosta Valley mountaineering, from the distant conquest of the Matterhorn to the exploits of a group of young people, who around 1930 solved the major "mountaineering problems" of that era. The facts narrated are strictly authentic.
