The happy combination of the arched loggia and the columned loggia, which appears on the cover of this volume, introduces us to a sector of the Alpine arc where imagination and creativity are not lacking in the conception of the peasant house. As soon as historical conditions allowed the achievement of civic freedoms, popular architecture, repressed for a long time, was able to rapidly evolve into its own forms, interpreting classical elements in an Alpine key, as the example of Val Chiusella testifies. Where this happened, how, when and why, are the questions that this research attempts to answer, even if many of the problems raised await solutions from other more competent scholars. The author will already be satisfied if he has contributed to stimulating interest in the conservation and protection of the Alpine building heritage, which decades of obtuse utilitarian mentality have compromised. There is still a lot to save, but we need to hurry before time and the new vandals have their day.
