Escaping poverty, a war or an environmental disaster, changing jobs, escaping from an arranged marriage, discovering an unknown world, reuniting the family, competing with those who have been lucky... are some of the reasons that have pushed (and push) millions of people to move from one place to another seeking new life opportunities. Even Giaglione, a municipality of ten villages between 600 and 800 meters above sea level in the Susa Valley, was and is both a place from which to start and a landing destination. The stories collected in this volume, told through letters, photographs and testimonies, refer to the broad and varied phenomenon of Alpine emigration which has one of its specific characteristics in the "culture of mobility".
