Year: 2006 Pages: 196 On the morning of May 17, 1914, four climbers attack the vertical rocks of the south-east face of the Torrione Magnaghi Meridionale. The leader Eugenio Fasana, from Milan, is a renowned rock climber. The three companions, Abele Miazza, Armando Venturoli and Attilio Del Vecchio, follow him in the hope of participating in the opening of an important itinerary. Then, suddenly, the accident that sees them fall horribly into the Canalone Porta below. It is the first true mountaineering tragedy to occur on the walls of the Southern Grigna, a mountain easily accessible from the plain and very popular, but also insidious and treacherous: murderous Grigna, in fact. The volume reconstructs the Magnaghi misfortune in all details, and retraces in parallel both the biography of Fasana, the only survivor, and "the hard struggle with the Alp" of the Lombard mountaineers from the end of the nineteenth century to the Second World War.
