Published in Vienna in 1922, "Jungborn" is first and foremost Lammer's mountaineering autobiography, with the story of his youthful climbs and the many famous, thrilling memories. After having set an example decades in advance, the now old Lammer dictates the principles of his fundamentalist theory for a more "authentic" and extreme mountaineering. Almost like a manifesto, welcomed with enthusiasm by young people who, in the aftermath of the Great War, were ready to throw themselves into the fray to achieve the sixth grade. Translated in 1932 in the Eroica series, later branded as a cursed classic and never reprinted again, Lammer's book remains indispensable for understanding mountaineering between the two wars: the temptation of risk and the challenge with death.
