It starts from the Champorcher Valley, continues in the Mont Avic Park and westwards into the valleys of the Gran Paradiso National Park: Cogne Valley, Valsavarenche, Val di Rhêmes and then into the peaceful Valgrisenche. At the head of the Vallée you discover the lakes and panoramas of La Thuile, around the Piccolo San Bernardo and in Val Veny, in front of Mont Blanc. We proceed eastwards, in the Saint-Nicolas plateaus, towards Switzerland at the Gran San Bernardo, in the solitary Ollomont Valley and in Valpelline. Finally you walk in Valtournenche, on the Great Matterhorn Balcony and in front of the Monte Rosa glaciers, among the Walser architecture of the Val d'Ayas and the Gressoney Valley. In each valley, trips are offered first on the right orographic side, then on the left. In all there are 17 excursions with more or less large rings, 6 short two-day treks, 25 classic trips with round trip on the same route, to see 142 lakes. The alpine lakes are the ideal destination to bring together water and mountain lovers, trained hikers and beginners, fanatics of great views and swimming enthusiasts. Even better if the lake is reached after a not too long walk, and then there is the possibility of continuing towards a second or third lake, or a hill. Those who prefer a beautiful but short walk stop on the shore of the first lake, while those looking for longer trips can go further up. It is the common thread of this guide, which offers trips from 2 to 7 hours of walking, half-day walks and two-day treks, circular itineraries to see more panoramas, excursions for the summer but also for late spring and 'fall. The itineraries are suitable for all hikers, on easy and marked paths, while only a few variations are for expert hikers.
