“Alpe Appennina” is today a site and a magazine, dedicated to the study of the history and stories of places, people and people of the territory that the title recalls. It was born from an intuition of Pier Giovanni Fabbri (1941-2017), a scholar and historian from Romagna. It will naturally focus on the Tuscan Romagna, the upper Tiber Valley and the Casentino, but without precise geographical limits: all the events, stories and studies that may have relevance for this area will have citizenship there. “Alpe Appennina” was the term with which the Florentines designated the mountains between Romagna and Tuscany, the slopes of which belonged entirely to their state. Long considered a land without history, the Apennine Alp was in fact a natural barrier between different states, yet continuously trafficked, crossed by merchants, pilgrims, government personnel and armies, home to lively urban centers. The first issue of the magazine is mainly dedicated to the Upper Savio Valley. It begins with a long article by Pier Giovanni Fabbri dedicated to the communities of the Capitanato di Bagno in the mid-sixteenth century. It continues with a work by Silvano Fabiani on the Oratory of the Madonna del Carmine in Bagno di Romagna. Alessio Boattini takes us to the countryside of the Alta Val Savio, to tell a story of love, among wheat fields and peasant vigils at the beginning of the eighteenth century. We move to Alta Val Tiberina for Giuliano Marcuccini's contribution on the Corazzini of Bulciano and their friendship with Giosuè Carducci. The last article, by Claudio Bignami, contains some testimonies from the world of small rural schools, true outposts of culture and literacy in not too distant years.
